Medieval Swivel. Circa 11th-13th century CE. Copper-alloy, 33mm diameter x 38mm, 50.4mm. A large leash swivel formed of a circular body, oval in profile and decorated on the upper and lower face with a series of incised lines. Ref: B.Read. 2016, Metal artefacts of antiquity, p 64 no 483, is almost identical. Read comments: 'uncertain function but possibly from dogs' leashes.' This object is dated to the 11th century, though it is likely such objects were used throughout the medieval period.
